Ho Chi Ming

Ho Chi Minh was born on May 19, 1890 in the villiage of Kimlien, Vietnam.
His real name was Nguyen Tat Thanh. After World War I Ho began his political
career using the pseudonym Nguyen Ai Quoc (Nguyen the Patriot). In late
1924 he was sent to China by the French Communist Party to organize a revolutionary
movement among Vietnamese exiles. He was forced to leave China, but he
returned in 1930 and founded the Indochinese Communist Party (ICP). After
fifteen year long conflicts with the British police and a 5 year long exil,
the Vietminh proclaimed the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (DRV) in Hanoi
with Ho Chi Minh as president in 1945 . The French didn´t accept
the independence of Vietnam and in late 1946 war broke out. Ho won the
war 1954 and Vietnam became devided
in North and South Vietnam. In the early 1960s guerrillias mounted an insurgency
against the U.S.-supported regime in Saigon. The Communist won over the
South in 1975.
Ho Chi Minh died of heart failure in Hanoi on September 3, 1969.
He is known as one of the most popular Communist leaders of the World.
In his honor Saigon was renamed Ho Chi Minh City in 1975.
