Record Companies paid money so that disc jockeys played their songs.
In 1960 US Congress opened hearings on payola, a scheme in which
a radio station or its employees, usually disc
jockeys, accepted payment for broadcasting records. Among
those accused were DJs Alan Freed and Dick Clark.
