Nelson A. Rockefeller (1908-1979)

He was the grandson of John D. Rockefeller, who founded the Rockefeller Foundation in1913.
Nelson was a businessman, politician, statesman, art collector and philanthrophist and he expanded the family`s tradition of public life from business and philanthrophy into government service and politics.
First he worked in the family-related enterprises, but then he established new organizations, for example the American International Association for Economic Developement in1946. In1933 he started his political career as a member of the Westchester County Board of Health.
In1960, 1964, 1968 he tried to be nominated as presidential candidate for the Republicans, but he was not elected. In 1973/74 he was nominated as vice president under Gerald Ford.
He died of a heart attack in 1979.
