(Jan.13, 1902 in Orenburg, Russia - Jan. 14, 1988 near Moscow) Malenkov
was a prominent Soviet statesman and Communist Party offical. He joined
the Communist Party in 1920. Malenkov served in the Second World War and
after it he was appointed second secretary of the Central Committee and
deputy prime minister. After Stalin's death he became prime minister in
March 1953. But in February 1955 he was forced to resign as prime minister.
Malenkov was expelled from Presidium and Central Committee in 1957 and
from the Communist Party in 1961.
