James Dean was born in Marion, Indiana, in 1931. He went to Santa Monica
Junior College in California and the University of California in Los Angeles.
He started his career as an actor with little roles in television commercials.
In 1952 he acted in "See the Jaguar" on Broadway and in 1954 in "The Immortalist".
In 1955 he got his first leading film role as a rebellious son in "East
of Eden". Director Elia Kazan helped launch Dean`s career. In the 1950s
Dean had the reputation as a rebel and confirmed this in his films "Rebel
Without a Cause" and "Giants". James Dean died young in a car accident
on September 30, 1955. After his early death he became a legend. He was
also nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for "East of Eden" and
for "Giants".
