Budapest An anti-Communist revolution broke out in Budapest in 1956. Students wanted freedom of the press, free elections and an end of the secret police. Bloody fights between the students, workers and the Hungarian troops under general Maleter followed. The Communists set up a coalition government and the former Premier Nagy was the head of it. The Hungarian government left the "Warsaw Pact" and because of this Russian troops intervened in Budapest to save the Communist system. In the fights many people were killed and there were a lot of refugees.
