Before there was information about stars on TV, there was gossip reporter Walter Winchell. At the height of his fame his newspaper column and radio show could make or break a celebrity, and everyone knew it. Winchell started out backstage on Broadway in the roaring twenties, where his reports became known for their freshness and irreverence. In the thirties, he expanded his field to Hollywood, the hotbed of rumor.
