He was born in Brockton on Sept. 1, 1923 and died near Newton, Iowa on
Aug. 31, 1969. Marciano born by name of Rocco Francis Marchegiano, was
also called The Brockton Bockbuster. He was worldchampion in heavyweight
boxing from Sept. 23, 1952 to April 27, 1956. First he wanted to start
a baseball career, but during the Second World War he began to box. After
his championships he was killed in the crash of an airplane in which he
was a passenger.
